By now I know many of you have received the news that I have tendered my letter or resignation as President/CE of ATOS to Chairman Richard Neidich. The effective date is March 31, 2017. I know you know because I have received dozens and dozens upon dozens of phone calls, text messages and emails on the topic.

Boy, is our face red!

In the November/December issue of the Journal, we ran a review of a CD from John Clark McCall, entitled Florida Fanfare – Your Packard Hit Parade 5th Edition. Reviewer Doug Grant referred to it as a two-CD compilation with a price of $25.00.

Wrong on two counts.

David is well-known to theatre organ audiences throughout the world and has served as resident organist at the Clemens Center in Elmira, NY since its opening. Hearing theatre organ music even before he was born, he was fortunate to grow up in a home packed with a modest theatre organ and all sorts of automatic musical instruments.

Helena Simonton, the widow of the late Richard Simonton (d. 1979), passed away peacefully July 31 in California after a brief decline in health. October 31 would have been her 99th birthday.

I had the privilege of being in the Chicago area and spending the better part of two days during the recent ATOS Summer Youth Adventure (the “SYA”). It is hard to believe that this event just celebrated its 10th Anniversary!

A smooth transition; a new Board of Directors; a “calming of the storm;” a great convention; and two other major events are an indication that the American Theatre Organ Society is back to conducting its business well, and is moving forward.

The Cleveland Convention was a great success and you will read all about it in the upcoming September-October issue of the journal. In making the transition to the new board of directors, we offer our sincere “Thanks” to outgoing board members Lee Lanier, Bob Evans (who served nine years as Secretary), Juan Cardona, Jr., and John Ledwon.

Andy Crow, the well-known organist, organ builder, and restorer, passed away on July 12 at the Panorama Convalescent and Rehabilitation Center in Lacey, Washington. Andy had been living with Parkinson's Disease; he was 83.

The ATOS Board of Directors and Officers (the Board) held three separate sessions last week in Cleveland, OH during the 2016 ATOS Annual Convention. The Board held its annual meeting on July1, 2016 and elected new officers for each of the leadership positions.
